A commission is a bespoke creative journey where you and Matt Stanners co-create a unique work of art. It begins with a conversation—whether over coffee, a call, or a studio visit—delving into your own creative interests.

While you specify dimensions and express your aesthetic preferences, themes, colors, etc., the essence of this process lies in entrusting the artist to interpret and transform insights into an emotionally resonant piece. 

Many commission members have taken the opportunity to host private, dynamic gatherings where Matthew is present to share insights into the work and foster deeper connection with the creative project.

“When I first approached Matthew Stanners, I needed art for two spaces in my new house but I didn’t have a clear vision in mind — just a feeling. Inspired by James Taylor’s Fire and Rain, I asked for two paintings: one evoking violent water, the other fire. What Matthew delivered weren’t just paintings — they were wonders. Matthew accepts and explores client-directions like dimensions, cultural themes, and aesthetic preferences, but I’ve found that giving the artist creative space and trust yields the most spectacular results. He listens with a deep curiosity, asking the right questions while following his own creative compass.  He finds what is emotionally resonant, often hidden just beneath the surface, and brings it into view with wonder and care.

After the works arrived, sitting down with Matthew to explore what he saw, thought, and felt while creating them added a whole new layer of brilliance. The pieces deepened. They became more intimate. They grew alongside me and they continue to facilitate connection as I share with friends and family.
